”I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God. I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that people will fear him.“
God assigning work to us has been part of His model from the beginning. Adam and Eve were instructed to cultivate the Garden of Eden. And the theme of work being the physical activity associated with the purposes of God for our lives is seen throughout the Bible. Ephesians 2:10 tells us that we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance as our way of life. Work is the way of life, and in today’s passage in Ecclesiastes 3, King Solomon is saying that we should find happiness and satisfaction in our work, because it is a gift from God. So let me challenge you -- are you finding happiness and satisfaction in the work the Lord has given you? If you are not, ask Him to renew your energy and passion for it. And if it becomes clear that His grace has lifted on your current work -- ask Him to show you where He’s calling you to be next.
