”I look up to the mountains and hills, longing for God’s help. But then I realize that our true help and protection is only from the Lord, our Creator who made the heavens and the earth. He will guard and guide me, never letting me stumble or fall. God is my keeper; he will never forget nor ignore me.“
The closer we get to the election, it seems the news cycle, the rhetoric and spiritual war around us seems to be intensifying more and more. And it can be so easy to allow ourselves to fall into panic about what lies ahead. We can choose to stay up to the second on all of the news and drive ourselves kind of crazy. Or we can put down the phone for periods of time, turn off the tv and get outside like the Psalmist. Getting outside, away from technology is so good to calm our minds and spirits. It gets us out of the swirl, and then we can remember where our help comes from. It doesn’t come from being the most informed or the most prepared. Our help comes from the Lord, the Maker of Heaven and Earth. He is our protector, the One who watches us and helps us. He has never forgotten about us yet and He won’t forget us now. He is at work in our personal lives, and He is at work saving our nation. So over the next few days and weeks discipline yourself to spend good amounts of time away from the tv and the phone every day. That alone will calm your mind and spirit. And all the news of the world will be there waiting when you get back.
