#169 Good Progress & Pushing Forward

"And before he had finished speaking, people arrived from Jairus’ house and pushed through the crowd to give Jairus the news: “There’s no need to trouble the master any longer—your daughter has died.” But Jesus refused to listen to what they were told and said to the Jewish official, “Don’t yield to fear. All you need to do is to keep on believing.”

Mark 5 is a miracle-packed chapter. It’s the chapter where Jesus cast the legion of demons out of a man in the Gerasenes. He healed the woman with the issue of blood who had been suffering for 12 years and he resurrected the 12 year old daughter of Jairus who was a Jewish temple official. The scripture picks up right when the people come to tell Jairus and Jesus that the little girl had died.

After this, Jesus, went on to Jairus’s home and kicked the people out of Jairus’s house who were mourning and not in faith. He took only Jairus & his wife, Peter, James & John into the room with the little girl - and he raised her from the dead. And this gives us a powerful example of what we are to do when all hope seems lost. In those moments we are to refuse to yield to fear. And keep on believing that the Lord will come through for us. Whether it is something as big as the condition of world affairs and the degradation of culture and society or as personal as your finances or a family member’s spiritual, mental or physical health - the instruction from Jesus is clear. Don’t yield to fear. All you need to do is keep on believing.
