”The Lord said, “I have surely seen the affliction of My people who are in Egypt, and have given heed to their cry because of their taskmasters, for I am aware of their sufferings. So I have come down to deliver them from the power of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a good and spacious land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Amorite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite. Now, behold, the cry of the sons of Israel has come to Me; furthermore, I have seen the oppression with which the Egyptians are oppressing them.“
Just as the Lord saw the affliction of the Israelites in Egypt, He sees us now. He knows that our freedoms have been eroded. And He knows that we are being governed in many cases by clowns, thieves and weak willed men and women with no conviction. I believe that the Lord will come and deliver us from the oppression we are living under - just as He delivered the Israelites. And like the Israelites, we have to participate in our own rescue. It’s not often talked about but not all of the Israelites were rescued. Because not all of them heeded the instructions of God through Moses. Jewish scholars suggest that somewhere between one out of every 50 or even as few as 1 out of every 500 Israelites refused to go with Moses, so they got left behind in Egypt. Listen to the instruction of the Lord. If He’s telling you to prepare in some way, do it. If He’s prompting you to get involved in advocacy or something in your church or community, do it. We have to be people who heed the instruction of the Lord -- that’s how we participate in His rescue of us.
