Hebrews 8:10-12 - In this passage, the author of Hebrews - possibly Paul is teaching about the new Covenant having been established through Jesus. This is his paraphrasing from the book of Jeremiah
“For here is the covenant I will one day establish with the people of Israel: I will embed my laws within their thoughts and fasten them onto their hearts. I will be their loyal God and they will be my loyal people. And the result of this will be that everyone will know me as Lord! There will be no need at all to teach their fellow-citizens or brothers by saying, ‘You should know the Lord,’ since everyone will know me inwardly, from the most unlikely to the most distinguished. For I will demonstrate my mercy to them and will forgive their evil deeds, and never remember again their sins.””
The Lord led me to this passage this morning and I had to smile. Because a friend left me a message yesterday giving me an update on a book she’s writing that touched on the same thing. Her book is about her walk with the Lord as an artist, and she talked about wanting to use language that resonated with people without sounding religious because the Lord has embedded His truth in all of our hearts. And I love that because she’s absolutely right and it’s scriptural. We are all wired to know truth. Since the Day of Pentecost when Holy Spirit was released in the Earth and came down like tongues of fire on the disciples gathered in the upper room, we all have the truth engraved in our hearts. It’s just a matter of listening to our heart. This etching of the truth on our hearts is what enables us to see truth, to recognize truth and to choose truth. I believe this is what enables us to recognize our need for salvation through Jesus.
